The Terminator

It turns out that James Cameron has chatted to Arnold Schwarzenegger about a possible direction for Terminator 5. But what is it...?

The current state of the fifth Terminator movie? Ah, that’s a good question. We know that it’s going to target an R rating, so that’s a start. We know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is involved and interested. And we know that Fast Five helmer Justin Lin was going to direct it, but instead opted to make two more Fast & Furious movies.

Thus, it’s in a little bit of limbo.

Yet that doesn’t mean that work isn’t being done on the story, and as it turns out, James Cameron has had a little input on it. Cameron, of course, wrote and directed the first two films, although steered clear of Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and Terminator: Salvation.

However, he’s told MTV that “I was talking to [Arnold Schwarzenegger] back in fall about a new Terminator film and quietly advising on that, I suppose you could say”.

And what was the advice? Basically, to turn the focus onto the T-800 that Arnie played in the first two movies.

"I was trying to be as encouraging as possible”, Cameron said. “Frankly, at that time, I thought it needed to be more about him. I told [Schwarzenegger] he should not do it until it's focused on his character or he shouldn't do it. I think there are some great stories that can be told about that character that haven't even been thought of yet."

Watch them go and ignore him now.
