Is Mario on the way back to our screens with the long overdue numbered sequel?
It would appear as though Nintendo is up to something, and that something may be wearing dungarees, and have an aversion to shaving foam. It's been discovered that the Japanese giant has registered the domain name ‘supermario4.com', and this currently redirects to Nintendo's main site. According to online records, the domain name was registered on April 3.
Does this mean a new, numbered Mario is on the way? And, if it's bearing a number, will it be a more traditional outing? It's hard to say, and it's also difficult to know if it'll be for the Wii U or 3DS if it does exist. However, with the Wii U being the next big thing for Nintendo, it's got to be the favourite. After all, the 3DS just got Super Mario 3D Land, and so, has its fair share of Koopa-crushing fun.
Of course, Nintendo could simply be keeping greedy hands off the domain name, just in case someone snaffles it and tries to charge for its use later, but with the Wii U ‘round the corner, and the 3DS picking up some steam, who knows?
This news also comes as gaming god, Shigeru Miyamoto, told Edge Online that F-Zero on the Wii-U could be a very real possibility. He also suggested that he'd like to work on a new Zelda game based on the SNES classic, A Link to the Past.
"I think I'd be even more interested in creating something new maybe based on, or starting from, A Link To The Past. I think it's important to bring some really new software." He said in the interview, when asked about a possible port of Link to the Past on the 3DS.
That's three big guns from the Nintendo stable, and although nothing more than rumour and interview comments at the moment, you can't deny that Nintendo fans should get a little bit excited at the prospect of some more, proper AAA titles from Ninty.
