Could the Oldboy remake finally have found its villain? And might it be Sharlto Copley signing up for Spike Lee's movie?
The Hollywood remake of Oldboy hasn’t been having the best of times. On the bright side, Spike Lee has long been attached to direct. But hammering down a cast? That’s been trickier.
Amongst the names linked with the project since it was first mooted? Rooney Mara, Colin Firth, Clive Owen and Christian Bale. None of them will be on set when the film starts rolling.
The cast members who had been confirmed? Josh Brolin has long been one, and Elizabeth Olsen is one of the more recent additions. Finally, though, the villain role may be finally being filled.
And it’s District 9 star Sharlto Copley who’s the latest to be linked. Variety has reported that Copley has been offered the role, although again, it’s not clear whether or not it’s been accepted yet.
The film is targeted for a 2013 release, though, so production will need to start soon. We’ll keep you posted…
