Anther day, another Kickstarter campaign, but this time it’s for cult classic, Shadowrun…
If you're old enough to remember the original Shadowrun games, all the way back to the FASA Corporation pen and paper RPG of 1989, then you're no doubt already clicking on the link below and donating money.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Shadowrun is a fantasy, sci-fi mash up that sees trolls, elves and magic users romp around a futuristic sci-fi dystopia run by corporations. In this world are Shadowrunners, assets of the corporations that do the dirty work with a mix of cybernetic implants, magic and good old fashioned gun play.
The RPG series has seen games appear on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis), Super Nintendo and, on the Xbo... Actually, let's ignore that last one, something that series creator, Jordan Weisman agrees with. Yeah, it was Baaad.
The games (the good ones) were deep, with strong stories, great characters and a rich, absorbing world that drew inspiration from the whole spectrum of fantasy and sci-fi. The mixture of magic and technology, with some devious puzzling thrown in for good measure worked well, and the series lived on further in novels and even a board game.
The Kickstarter project hopes to raise $400,000 for a new instalment of the series, one that will deliver graphically rich 2D tactical play steeped in exploration and character development.
The game will also ship with a level editor, meaning that it'll return to its pen and paper roots, allowing everyone to tell their own story.
Shadowrun was an excellent and unique RPG, and it certainly deserves a little of your hard earned currency of choice, so visit the link below and check it out.
