Doctor Who: The TARDIS

The Doctor Who movie is still many years away, as David Yates gives a small update on the project...

The fine folks at Bleeding Cool got a chance to catch up with director David Yates yesterday, as part of the promotion for the Warner Bros Studio Tour, which is opening shortly and offering a chance to take a look around the Harry Potter sets.

The subject of the Doctor Who movie - of which Yates' involvement in was revealed last year - came up, and he firstly reaffirmed that he’s definitely doing the film.

He added, though, that “I think where everyone got confused was that we’re not making it for five years, or six years – it’s a very slow development. I’ve got projects backed up between now and about 2015, and it’s something I’m very passionate and excited about.”

With regards Steven Moffat and his thoughts on the project, Yates added that “Steven’s a genius. I love his work, I think he’s incredibly clever. I love what he’s done with Doctor Who, love his Sherlock Holmes. He’s such a gifted man. But this is something that’s a very slow burn and I’m hoping to sit down with him at some point and have a chat. It’s just something that we’ve been talking about for a little while.”

Hoping to sit down for a chat? It seems odd that they've not had one yet, given all the noise that came about when news of the project first surfaced. That said, neither of them, we'd wager, tend to get too many days off.

Yates wouldn’t go into detail as to whether the TV series and planned film would intersect in anyway. But you can read more on that in the full piece, here.
