The Dark Knight Rises: casting spoiler, and running time rumour

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises looks like being a shorter film that The Dark Knight. And we’ve got a bit of late casting news, too…

Two quick bits of business regarding The Dark Knight Rises to bring you up to speed on, although do note that one of them is a bit of a spoiler. So, if you don’t want to know who’s popping up in the film, then it’s best that we part company now.

Firstly, then, some clarification on the running time. There had been a story doing the rounds last week about a first cut of the film that went on for hour and hours, that was pretty quickly debunked. But the early suggestion is that it’ll be a shorter movie than The Dark Knight, which ran to 152 minutes.

On his Twitter account, Variety’s news editor, quotes sources as saying the running time of The Dark Knight Rises is “just over two hours”. If you hear any more rumours of a three hour plus film, then, it’s probably safe to ignore them.

Onto that casting spoiler, then, which has popped up in the press notes for Wrath Of The Titans. It’s the confirmation that Liam Neeson will indeed be appearing in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie, where he’ll presumably be reprising the role of Ra’s Al Ghul. We’d assume that’s part of a flashback sequence (but, of course, Christopher Nolan may have something else up his sleeve).

Given the lengths the production has gone to in order to keep things like this under wraps, it’s surprising to see it leak out in such a way. Nonetheless, it’s out there now: Liam Neeson is back for a The Dark Knight Rises cameo.

The film arrives in July…
