Silent Hill HD Collection

The nightmarish town of Silent Hill gets a makeover in this new HD Collection…

You could possibly call Silent Hill the thinking man's Resident Evil, and the survival horror series with a penchant for meat monsters, Jacob's Ladder-style quivering foes and broken radios is about to return, in a new HD format.

Arriving on the PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 22 in North America, and March 30 in Europe (the same date as new instalment, Silent Hill: Downpour) the HD collection consists of retooled versions of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, complete with new visuals, vocal work and support for trophies/achievements.

As a fan of the series, I do find this release a little puzzling however. Calling only two out of a multitude of Silent Hill games a collection is s bit of a stretch, but nonetheless, Silent Hill 2 and 3 are considered by many to be the best in the series, and HD incarnations will no doubt still deliver the chills.

Personally, though, I'm amazed the original, and in my opinion, best, Silent Hill isn't on there, as I'd gladly throw my money at a HD remake of that on its own. Perhaps porting the first PS1 outing to HD may have simply been too big a task. The original game does exist on the PS3 via PSN, but this is merely a port of the original, not a HD remake.

As it stands, the collection seems a little bit meagre given the length of the series, but the two outings on offer are still great games, and for the price, it still represents good value, so check out the launch trailer ahead of the release next week.
