Changes are afoot, as the first details of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie are revealed...
Last week wasn’t a bad one for fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. After all, Paramount confirmed that it was pressing ahead with a live action/CG hybrid movie, that it was going to spend $100m to make it, and that it was set for release at the end of 2013.
The film is being produced by Platinum Dunes, the Michael Bay co-owned production company that’s been mainly dealing with horror remakes to this point. That’s led to some suspicion from people, curious what Platinum Dunes’ take on the Turtles material would be.
Turns out, we’ve now got an idea.
Michael Bay was chatting last week at the Nickelodeon Upfront event, and he specifically addressed the plan for the Turtles. He told the assembled crowd in New York that “When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these Turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie. These Turtles are from an alien race and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely lovable."
Yep, the origin of the Turtles is changing, even if the character of them doesn’t appear to be veering too far away from what we’re used to.
The new film is being directed by Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath Of The Titans, Battle: Los Angeles), and when we hear more, we’ll bring it your way.
