Paul McGann reaffirms that he'd be more than happy to return to Doctor Who, should birthday celebrations allow...
With the 50th birthday of Doctor Who on the horizon, in 2013, inevitably there are suggestions that the remaining Doctors will be invited back for an on-screen get together. It’s a bit of a tradition, after all.
Still, there’s been no word from Steven Moffat on the idea, and a complication lies in the fact that Christopher Eccleston has insisted he’d never go back to the role.
Still, there are others who would. Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy are all still active in the world of Doctor Who. As is the man who only got to play the role on screen once, Mr Paul McGann.
McGann’s eighth Doctor has enjoyed, though, a long life courtesy of the excellent Big Finish audio plays. And he’s been chatting to Digital Spy about the possibility of a return, should the opportunity arise in the 50th anniversary year.
“Being Doctor Who, there’s always anniversaries looming large – celebration programmes and episodes. I’m often asked, if they get the five Doctors together, would you do it?’ and of course, I’d do it. They’ve just got to ring me up!”. He added that even though he was in the show “for six weeks, sixteen years ago, it never goes away”.
It’d certainly be lovely to see McGann back in the role, but expect the plans for the 50th birthday to remain under wraps for a good while yet…
