Once the Avengers have assembled in cinemas this summer, there’s the small matter of The Avengers 2 to consider. And Joss Whedon has had a thought or two on it…
Marvel’s movie-making strategy has been building to this summer for many years, as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and Hulk all converge in The Avengers. Or Avengers Assemble, if you live in the UK.
However, Marvel has plans for three Avengers movies, and you can bet that it’ll want to get the next one moving reasonably quickly.
Chatting to SFX, Whedon said of the first movie that "I go to these movies for those moments when the heroes define themselves, either through action or deliciously overwritten speeches."
But with a second one? How could he go bigger? “By not trying to”, he responded.
“By being smaller. More personal, more painful. By being the next thing that should happen to these characters, and not just a rehash of what seemed to work the first time. By having a theme that is completely fresh and organic to itself”.
We like Joss Whedon. Assuming film one goes to plan, we hope he gets to make the next one, too.
