Quantic Dream shows what the PlayStation 3 can do with its KARA tech demo…
Think back a few years to the hype generated around the Cell processor Sony slapped inside the PS3. The Earth was promised, with talk of Über-powerful processing muscle, blinding speed, and even the ability to network multiple chips together, enhancing the power of other equipment.
Return to today, and although the PS3 is certainly the most powerful console around technically, the Cell chip hasn't set the world on fire as much as we all thought it would (at least, so far). And, only a few years into its life, the rumours are that Sony is already working on the successor to the PS3, the PS4.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that we've seen all the PS3 can do given all of this, but, as you'll see from this jaw-dropping tech demo, you'd be wrong.
Developed by Quantic Dream, of Heavy Rain, Fahrenheit and Nomad Soul fame, KARA is a tech demo with a difference. Not only does it make your bottom lip meet the ground, but it's also a tech demo with a story and emotion. It hits on all levels, and is all the more impressive when you consider that this is running on a PS3.
The tech demo isn't linked to any games in development, and it's simply a technical showcase, but, if you stop and consider what this kind of tech would be like in a game, you soon start to get excited. Hell, it's better than most films of late.
Go ahead, and give it a watch, or two. It's more than worth your seven minutes.
