It’s definite: Jason Segel won’t be writing the next Muppets movie, as he reveals he’s pursuing other projects…

Last week, the really very good news that another new Muppets film was in the works came to light. This, we should be straight with you, made us really very happy. Part and parcel of the news, though, was the suggestion that Jason Segel – the man pretty much instrumental in bringing the Muppets back – wouldn’t be returning, at least as writer again. And the man himself has now confirmed the news.

Segel has a new film coming up, called Jeff Who Lives At Home, and while doing press for that, he was asked by Collider what his involvement would be in the next film.

Segel said that “My goal was to bring The Muppets back, and I did that leaving them in very good hands, my writing partner [Nicholas Stoller] and James Bobin the director. All I wanted to do was to set the stage for them to do whatever they wanted. I did what I set out to do, and now I want to pursue more human-related projects. I’m sure I’ll return in some capacity here and there, but that was half a decade of my life.”

He added that after “Five years of hard work. I’m ready for a little puppet break.”

Which all basically means that the status of the next Muppets film is that James Bobin and Nicholas Stoller are writing it, Bobin is likely (we hope) to direct, and Segel may pop up in an acting role.

We’ll most certainly keep you posted on it.
