Sony’s FPS epic, Killzone 3, is giving you the chance to play online without spending a penny…
Sony has announced that it's releasing the online multiplayer components of Killzone 3 for free via PSN. The free-to-play version will be available in North America tomorrow, February 28, and will feature all the multiplayer content, including the DLC packs.
Of course, there is a catch, with the stipulation being that the game will cap your progress at level 10 (Sergeant) in this gratis version, which also means you can't earn some of the later weapons. If you want to play the full thing, you can upgrade to the whole multiplayer shebang for $14.99, or you can buy the full game.
Killzone 3 has been out for barely a year, and so this is a pretty impressive offer, and more importantly, it's a very goods sign of things to come in console gaming. If Sony is willing to offer this kind of free-to-play model for one of its biggest titles, hopefully we'll see more offers of this kind appearing on the platform, in turn opening the door to more likeminded releases outside of the PC world.
