Naughty Dog’s Jak and Daxter are back in HD, as another PlayStation classic collection arrives…
Long before Nathan Drake tomb raided his first treasure, Naughty Dog's style was a little different, and a smidgen more cartoony, and Jak and Daxter was where the company's success rested.
The series, made up of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II, Jak 3 and the lesser known, The Lost Frontier, is one of the PlayStation 2's best, and the platforming and shooting action, mixed in with vehicular thrills saw the game win a loyal following. The Lost Frontier wasn't' as well received, but the original trilogy is still heralded as a classic.
The open world, non linear approach to platforming, which also mixed in a wide range of guns, GTA-style vehicle hijacking and mini games, delivered some truly challenging platforming that was much more adult than its peers, especially later in the series.
Fans are still anxiously awaiting any solid news of another outing on PS3, but for now there's the re-mastered collection, featuring the first three games (no Lost Frontier, sorry), with added trophy support.
If you've never played any of the Jak games, then now's the perfect time to give this excellent series a go.
