Doctor Who : A Good Man Goes To War

Karen Gillan has been nattering about what's happening to Amy Pond in Doctor Who series 7...

Filming starts on Doctor Who’s seventh series since it was revived this coming week, and in a new interview over at IGN, Karen Gillan has been dropping a few hints as to what to expect.

If you are utterly unaware of what’s happening with Amy Pond in series seven, then it’s a good idea to look away now.

Still here?

Well, it’s pretty common knowledge that the characters of Rory and Amy will be leaving the show in series seven, with a new assistant coming in. Gillan was quizzed in the interview as to her exit from the show, and she teased that “I think it’s the best ever. I can’t say anything, but oh God, I’m dying to say something!”

She’s clearly worked in conjunction with Steven Moffat on just when in the series run she’ll be leaving the show, saying that she rang him up and “basically told him roughly when I wanted to go”.

“He told me where the story was at and where it was going and then we kind of together came up with it.”

Confessing that “I’ve known for ages”, she went on to say that “I wanted to go on a high … when the character was at her prime”.

And when quizzed on her hopes for Amy? Gillan said that “I want to see her go with everything that she wants, because initially, when we met her, she was just seeking what she wants, you know what I mean? And she was kind of in this lost, transitional period, where she didn't have a stable life. So I just want to see her get what she wants.”

Whether she does or not, we might just find out later this year.

The full interview, and it’s worth a read, is here.
