Dan Aykroyd has been chatting about Ghostbusters 3 again, and the hints are getting strong that the film will go ahead, with or without Bill Murray...
We still suspect that Ghostbusters 3 is no sure thing, and the continued reluctance of Bill Murray to get involved in the project has been well reported. Yet it's a film that refused to go away. Dan Aykroyd has been talking about it, too, to Empire, where he's addressed one or two of the rumours.
First up, he said that "If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have [Rick] Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant."
That's a long shot in itself. Rick Moranis has been retired from acting for the best part of a decade, and shows no sign of reversing his decision. Yet it might still be easier to get him involved, than Bill Murray.
Aykroyd, then, was inevitably asked if there was any truth to the rumours that Bill Murray shredded the latest script he was sent for the film:
"Bill Murray is not capable of such behaviour. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work."
From the answers above it would appear that the film is nowhere near ready for production, and the likelihood of it actually happening, certainly with all of the original cast intact, remains slim. As interesting as a new Ghostbusters movie would be, Murray’s stance seems a sensible one. It hardly seems, though, that his decision not to get involved is derailing the film.
