Batman: Arkham City has been chalking up the dollars and pounds, making Time Warner very happy

It's been revealed in Time Warner's 2011 fiscal report that the superb Batman: Arkham City has shipped six million units worldwide since its October launch last year.

The parent company of Warner Bros Interactive, Time Warner, saw its total revenues rise by nine percent to $12.6 billion during the 2011 fiscal year. The company has stated that a portion of this rise in revenue is because of strong sales of Arkham City, along with impressive performances by such titles as the reboot of Mortal Kombat and a few Lego titles.

These figures are very promising, although, according to NPD group figures, even this performance wasn't enough to crack the top spot, and Batman: Arkham City came in seventh behind CoD Black Ops at six, Madden '12 at five, Battlefield 3 at four, Skyrim at three, Just Dance 3 at two and, surprise, surprise, CoD:MW3 at number one.

Still, although the overall sales charts may not show it, Batman's Arkham series is making its company very wealthy indeed, which bodes well for a continuation of the franchise. And that can only be a good thing.
