The animated treat to watch out for in the months ahead is surely Aardman’s upcoming The Pirates! Here’s the new poster for it…
You wait five years for a new Aardman Animation film, and then two of them come along at once.
Last November, we had the charming Arthur Christmas, a film that hit big in the UK, yet strangely underperformed in the US. That, perhaps, explains why the forgettable Puss In Boots got an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature, and the far superior Arthur Christmas didn’t.
Here’s hoping for better international fortunes, then, for the stop motion animated The Pirates!, which goes under a different title depending on where you live. In the UK, it’s The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists. In the US, which is where this new poster originates from, it’s The Pirates! Band Of Misfits.
It’s an odd decision to run with two different titles, although when we went to a footage preview before Christmas, Sony didn’t seem too concerned, arguing that most people will simply call the film The Pirates! Our thought? They can call it what they like as long as they go and watch it. New Aardman movies remain something to treasure.
