The latest trailer for Syndicate demonstrates the power of technology
Anyone who's old enough to remember Bullfrog Producitons will surely have fond memories of playing the original Syndicate back in the early 90s. The isometric tactical masterpiece saw you deploy cyborg agents into various situations around the world, with the goal of making your shadowy corporation even more powerful. It was corporate espionage meets The Terminator, and it was superb.
Now that the reboot is almost here, there's been no shortage of trailers, and below is the latest, featuring an infomercial about the Dart 6 implant, the source of power behind the agents.
Taking a leaf out of Deus Ex: Human Revolution's book (to say the least), the license has been retooled into an FPS heavy on special abilities and co-op play. Rather than point and click your squad of suited-up death dealers around the world, you're now in full control and can use the powers of your Dart 6 implant to boost your speed, strength and weapon power, and more interestingly take control of your foes, up to and including forcing them to commit suicide. Nice.
Obviously, long time fans of the original are understandably concerned about this release, and the direction the game has taken, but we here at DoG are cautiously optimistic. Yes, it does look a little generic, and yes, it does seem to rip the aforementioned Deus Ex's ideas wholesale (even to the point of using infomercial trailers), but it does have some novel ideas under its belt, and if the co-op lives up to its potential, this could be a great release.
