X-Men: First Class

A follow-on to X-Men: First Class is happening, and original director Matthew Vaughn has apparently signed on for the sequel.

Well, this is good news.

Considering he had just over a year, start to finish, to deliver the film, director Matthew Vaughn did a really strong job on last year’s X-Men: First Class. And while the movie itself may not have brought in quite as much cash as the earlier entries in the franchise, as a reboot, it was job well done.

There’s been constant chatter about a sequel since the first film came out, and it’d been all but generally accepted that another X-Men film would be on the way. But it’s now been revealed that not only is there going to be a First Class sequel, but that Vaughn has agreed to direct again.

According to Deadline, “Fox has just closed a deal with Matthew Vaughn to come back and direct the sequel to X-Men: First Class, with Simon Kinberg writing the script and Bryan Singer back as producer”.

Simon Kinberg’s previous credits include X-Men: The Last Stand, Jumper and McG’s incoming This Means War. If Vaughn is returning, though, we’d imagine he’d bring back Jane Goldman at some point to do some screenplay work.

Our best guess would be to expect X-Men: First Class in 2014, given that there are still plans to bring The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, to cinemas in 2013. We’ll keep you posted when that’s confirmed, though.
