A project long bubbling away in Marvel's secret underground lair, there might just be a sign that the Doctor Strange movie is getting a bit closer...
One of many potential Marvel projects that tends to get talked about, with no obvious sign of it heading to the screen, is Doctor Strange. But! It might just be that Doctor Strange has taken a step or two further forward, with a new report that's popped up.
It’s been revealed, over at Fansshare, that the screenplay for the film has now been completed. It’s been put together by Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, who penned Conan and Sahara, and the search if apparently on for a director for the project.
Where this fits into the Marvel movies masterplan isn’t yet clear, though. The suggestion is that this will be a lower budget production, and we wonder if we might see it out of either a high summer or Christmas slot.
Furthermore, there’s the small matter of who’s going to play the title character. Doctor Strange is, if you’re unfamiliar with him, a surgeon who, through a series of circumstances, finds himself with great powers. He's certainly not one with the broad appeal of a Captain America or Iron Man.
The last we heard, it was a role that Patrick Dempsey was interested in, but we’d be surprised if he got it. Expect Marvel to pick someone all but unknown to headline the film.
A release date as early as 2013 has been mooted, although there’s no director in place as of yet. We will, of course, keep you posted.
