A reality show for comic book fans? Kevin Smith’s six-part Comic Book Men series is very nearly upon us, and we have the details right here…
For too long reality TV has been the domain of the acrylic nails and hair extensions brigade, but now comes a show which promises to add a little diversity: Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men.
Filmed in Smith’s New Jersey comic shop, Jay and Bob’s Secret Stash, the unscripted show will chronicle the working lives of View Askewniverse regulars Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Make Zapcic and Ming Chen in six hour-long episodes including podcasts with Smith.
Smith has talked up the home of Comic Book Men saying, “Draper. Meth. Zombies. This show couldn't be on a better network.
"AMC is to television what Miramax was to cinema back when I first got in the game. If they’d pushed just a little harder in the negotiations, I’d have done this show for no payment beyond early access to every episode of Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead.”
AMC will air the first episode of Comic Book Men on February 12th immediately after its return to series 2 of The Walking Dead.
So, are we looking at more Simpsons-style stereotyping for comic book fans, or will the series provide a sensitive portrayal of comic enthusiasts? What do you make of the first poster below?
