The next instalment in the Resident Evil series has been announced, and it’s looking damn fine too
With the somewhat mixed reception garnered by Resident Evil 5, and the arrival of a slew of new zombie-themed titles, the granddaddy of the zombie-slaying series hasn't had a smooth ride of late. The fifth title didn't mange to come close to the brilliance of the fourth in many people's opinion, and the move away from the classic, shuffling undead was frowned upon by some.
Well, it looks as though the Resident Evil world hasn't taken things sitting down, and not only are we due to return to Racoon City in, ahem, Operation Racoon City, but now the next main instalment of the series has been revealed, and, it's out this year, on November 20th.
Resident Evil 6 will bring back series veterans Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy, and will also introduce new characters, including a mysterious bloke who appears to have some super powers and will, apparently, save the whole world.
New enemies and a return of the classic zombie horde are promised, in an adventure that isn't simply limited to a single outbreak, but looks as though it's going to be a true global threat, even reaching the most powerful man in the world, the President of the United States - blimey!
Details are, of course, relatively thin this early on, but the developers have promised a Resident Evil that's not only going to be scary, but also overwhelming in terms of scale, story and atmosphere.
Gameplay looks as though it's going to be similar to Resi 4 and 5, but much smoother and fast paced, with a cover system and possibly fighting alongside team mates (with a co-op mode not unlikely).
Resi 6 could well be the biggest entrant in the series so far, and after watching the trailer, we think you'll agree that this looks like Resident Evil could well be back in force.
