The latest picture from the set of Ruben Fleischer’s The Gangster Squad reveals the team assembled to take down gangster Mickey Cohen.
When I heard that Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) was attached to a film called The Gangster Squad, part of me hoped for a gangster themed twist on The Monster Squad. Not to be, sadly.
On the upside, the film is a noir about an LAPD unit set up to tackle organised crime and specifically bring down gangster Mickey Cohen. The film is based on a series of articles in the L.A. Times by Paul Lieberman in 2008.
This latest picture from the movie shows the assembled team consisting of Michael Pena, Ryan Gosling, Robert Patrick, Anthony Mackie and leader of the gang Josh Brolin.
That in itself is a damn fine line up of acting talent, but the film promises us more treats not included in the picture. There's Sean Penn playing Cohen and a supporting cast that includes Emma Stone, Nick Nolte, Giovanni Ribisi, Holt McCallany, Frank Grillo, Josh Pence, Sullivan Stapleton, Mirielle Enos and Troy Garity.
The Gangster Squad is set for release in the UK on the 9th of November. Here’s hoping the film can live up to the promise of the premise, and the impressive cast.
