Could Josh Trank, the helmer of the incoming Chronicle, be the man to steer the Fantastic Four back to the big screen?

Easily one of the most interesting genre movies of early 2012 is the upcoming Chronicle, a low budget superhero feature that has the feel of Cloverfield and Kick-Ass to it.

The film has been directed by Josh Trank, and Fox clearly has in mind for further projects. In fact, Variety has revealed that Trank might just be the man that the studio calls on to reboot the cinematic Fantastic Four franchise.

Chronicle is Trank’s first feature, and the studio is understood to be waiting to see just how that does before offering him the Fantastic Four gig. It’s little secret that Fox wants to reboot the series, not least because if it doesn’t act soon, then the rights will revert back to Marvel (and, thus, Disney).

As of now, Josh Trank is described by Variety as the “frontrunner” to direct a new Fantastic Four film, although a firm decision isn’t expected for a month or two. We will, of course, keep you posted.
