After a hold-up due to negotiations between the show’s creator and the network, season 5 of AMC’s Mad Men is due to air on March 25th…
Eighteen months since the season 4 finale aired in the US, Mad Men is finally returning, and Don Draper himself has word on the broadcast date. Jon Hamm revealed in a Doug Loves Movies podcast interview that the new season of Mad Men will start airing on AMC on Sunday 25th March, presumably in its usual 10pm timeslot.
AMC has yet to deny or confirm Hamm’s announcement, but we’re treating the actor as a reliable inside source (even more so as Hamm has directed the first episode of the new season).
The hold-up between seasons 4 and 5 is down to lengthy negotiations between the network and Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner over the episodes’ 47 minute running time. Weiner has emerged from the talks victorious it seems, and will be serving up 13 new episodes all at their usual 47 minute duration.
Series 4 of Mad Men was broadcast in the UK six weeks after its US debut, but after Sky snatched the show from the BBC’s mitts last year, Sky Atlantic subscribers may not have to wait as long for series five. Sadly, now that Mad Men is a Sky exclusive property over here, non-subscribers will have to sit patiently until the DVD release.
