New Line makes good on its threat to reboot the Police Academy series, as a remake is heading to cinemas...
It’s been one of those projects that’s bounced around the past few years, seemingly in jest. But suddenly, it appears that the planned remake of Police Academy is very much live and kicking.
Deadline is reporting that not only is New Line moving ahead on the film, that it’s also found a director for it.
Scott Zabielski is the man who’s been charged with making the brand new Police Academy movie. It’s going to be his first film, having cut his teeth on Comedy Central’s Tosh.O. Deadline also reports that Zabielski, er, went through a police academy himself.
No further details have been released, but it’s not hard to guess what’s going to happen. A brand new collection of recruits will be taught by some of the old guard from the previous franchise. It’s going to be the Ghostbusters 3 template in that regard, we’d wager, although there’s more chance of getting Bill Murray to appear in a Police Academy movie than return to Ghostbusters.
We’ll keep you posted as the new wacky recruits are cast. More on the story at Deadline, here. We're just off to cry.
