Directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman may be set to return for Paranormal Activity 4, according to new reports…

Given just how cheap the Paranormal Activity films are to shoot, and how much money they bring in off the back of a relatively tiny investment, it’s easy to see why Paramount is so eager to make them a regular autumn fixture. And after a so-so sequel in 2010, Catfish directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman brought a much-needed jolt of energy (and scares) for last year’s Paranormal Activity 3.

The film introduced a couple of small yet interesting ideas, used to eerie effect – not least a camera mounted on a slowly rotating desk fan, and a horrifying cameo from 80s toy box icon Teddy Ruxpin.

Earlier this week, Paramount surprised nobody by announcing a fourth Paranormal Activity, which we later learned is scheduled for release on 19th October. Exactly who would be directing it was left unmentioned, though considering how much Joost and Schulman brought to PA3, it seems logical that Paramount would want them behind the camera again.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the filmmakers are now in final talks to direct the sequel, though Paramount has yet to officially confirm this. For those who enjoyed their instalment, this is definitely good news – and we’re certainly intrigued to see where they can take this conceptually simple franchise next. A cameo from a haunted Sylvanian Families playset, perhaps?
