A surprisingly late confirmation, this, as Marvel and Disney say that a 3D bolt-on is being added to The Avengers...
Up until now, there had been little in the way of chatter of The Avengers being released in anything other than 2D. From that, we concluded that Joss Whedon had shot the film primarily with 2D in mind, and hadn't thought much more of it.
Marvel, however, is apparently now planning a 3D release too, for definite. It's only just confirmed the news (surprising, given a Real 3D logo appears at the end of the most recent trailer), which suggests to us that it had been doing post-production 3D tests and was happy with what it saw. The 3D of both Thor and Captain America was added after shooting, too, and, we'd argue, added pretty much nothing.
We'll see if The Avengers fares any better. At least they've got a few months before its late-April roll-out (in the UK) to get it sorted. The only oddity here, we guess, is that it's been announced so relatively late. The Amazing Spider-Man, by contrast, has been 3D since it was first announced.
