Marvel has a new shortlist of possible directors for Thor 2, with a Game Of Thrones flavour to it. Plus, it's hunting for a new writer, too...
Kenneth Branagh did a great job of bringing Marvel's Thor to the big screen earlier this year, serving up elements of humour and Shakespearian drama that made the film one of the more exciting blockbusters of the year.
Branagh passed on the sequel, for scheduling reasons apparnetly, but promisingly, Monster director Patty Jenkins was set to replace him. However, she walked away from the project last week, citing those pesky creative differences.
However, Marvel is wasting little time recruiting a replacement.
Brian Kirk, whose credits include Game of Thrones, was one of the early names associated with the project before Jenkins was hired, yet nothing came of it. But now it seems that Marvel Studios is looking to the aforementioned TV series for its next director, as Alan Taylor and Daniel Minahan (who both worked on Game Of Thrones) are reportedly being considered for the job.
In addition to searching for a new director, Marvel is also looking for someone to come on board to do a rewrite on Don Payne’s script. The names shortlisted are John Collee (Master and Commander), Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) and Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction). Some interesting choices, there.
Marvel doesn't have long to get it director in place if it wants to hit its November 15th 2013 release date. Don't be surprised, therefore, if it makes its call this side of Christmas.
