Image and trailer hint at a new Dizzy game

Could retro hero Dizzy be returning for a new adventure? That’s the vibe we’re getting from the teaser trailer and image you can see here…

Fans of retro adventure games starring sentient eggs rejoice: one of yesteryear’s most oval heroes could be about to make a welcome return to our computers, consoles or handheld devices.

A generation of gamers will associate Dizzy’s grinning face with an 80s and 90s era of budget adventure games. Beginning with Dizzy: The Ultimate Cartoon Adventure in 1986, the games usually involved wandering around, collecting items and solving simple puzzles. Gradually, though, Dizzy became popular enough to spread from his early home on the ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC, and branch out into spin-off titles (Fast Food, Kwik Snax and Dizzy Panic!, for example) and more posh systems like the NES, Amiga and Mega Drive.

Since 1992’s Crystal Kingdom Dizzy, the cheerful little egg’s been rather quiet, with his fortunes apparently withering with the Spectrum and Amiga’s popularity. Now, though, it seems that Codemasters is finally returning to this forgotten hero, with the teaser trailer below hinting that a new adventure may be in the offing.

As yet, Codemasters has said nothing more about the game, with the image you can see on the top right the only item of note on the website eggcitingnews.com. Eagle-eyed viewers, meanwhile, will have spotted the brief shot of Dizzy Prince Of The Yolkfolk. Should we expect a remake of that game, or something more adventurous?

Codemasters has promised it will divulge more Dizzy details tomorrow, which we’ll share with you in due course.
