Doctor Who: The Wedding Of River Song

The incumbent Doctor, Mr Matt Smith, offers his thoughts on plans for a Doctor Who movie, and whether he’s likely to be involved in it…

The news of a Doctor Who feature film being directed by Harry Potter helmer David Yates has only been with us for the past week, but it’s inevitably caused quite a stir.

Reading between the lines on Steven Moffat’s Twitter feed, for instance, it’s not hard to pick up the suggestion that he's got little-to-no involvement in the project, although we should point out that’s not been confirmed either way.

As for Matt Smith? He was on promotional duties yesterday for the launch of Doctor Who series six on DVD and Blu-ray, and as part of that, he did a live Q&A at the Stratford City Westfield shopping centre.

His views? “It sounds very exciting”, he said, “but it isn’t something that we’re involved in”. Which would continue the suggestion that the team making the television show have had nothing to do with the film project.

Smith added that he’d be happy to be involved. “I love playing the Doctor. Clearly it sounds very exciting, but films take two to three years to develop”. And, as he pointed out, “who knows who’ll be in the hot seat then?”

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more. But it continues to look unlikely that, if the movie does get off the ground, that Matt Smith will be starring in it.
