Ridley Scott confirms that he's planning to direct the new Blade Runner film, that it is a sequel, and that the original cast won't be involved...

It’s been quite a few weeks now since the first word of a sequel to Blade Runner filtered through, and it looks like it might have some real momentum behind it.

The film has made it to the busy production slate of Ridley Scott, who is currently polishing off Prometheus (a film set in the world of Alien), and he’s confirmed in a new interview that he’s planning to direct the new Blade Runner movie.

Describing the film as “liable to be a sequel”, Scott revealed that “I think I’m close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver … we’re quite a long way in, actually”.

Scott also confirmed that you won’t be seeing Harrison Ford, Sean Young or Rutger Hauer in the cast (although, er, you probably weren’t expecting all of them). Scott says that the film is pressing ahead, albeit “not with the past cast, of course”.

You can read more of the interview over at Speakeasy, here. And we'll keep you posted of further developments.
