Ahead of The Avengers next year, Joss Whedon’s somehow found time to shoot an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing…

Roland Emmerich’s turned from apocalyptic disaster to board-creeping drama with Anonymous, which comes out in the UK this weekend, and in a vaguely similar move, writer and director Joss Whedon has unveiled a Shakespearian project of his own: an adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing.

The announcement began with a single tweet, which many would have been forgiven for thinking was some sort of prank. But hours later came an official website, which confirms that Whedon is indeed making his own take on the Bard’s Elizabethan rom-com.

Right now, we don’t know much about it, other than it’ll star longstanding Whedon cohort Nathan Fillion, and judging by the preview image that accompanies this post, it’ll be set in the present day, and will feature snorkelling and cocktails.

Bellwether Picture, meanwhile, has announced that shooting’s already finished on the movie, which surely makes it one of the best-kept secrets in recent film history.

More Much Ado news as we get it.
