Having drawn up a shortlist a few weeks ago, Warner Bros has now picked who it wants to enter The Twilight Zone.

A couple of weeks back, we reported on the list of potential directors who were on Warner Bros' shortlist to direct their big screen re-boot of The Twilight Zone. The list included Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay, Alfonso Cuaron, David Yates and Rupert Wyatt. They’re all very different directors in terms of style who would have provided their own unique spin on the source material.

Warner Bros, however, now has its man, and the job hasn't gone to one of the names on that aforementioned list. Instead, it's gone to Cloverfield and Let Me In director Matt Reeves. The plan is to sign him up and get working on the script, with a view to begin shooting next year.

Bay aside, all of the directors on the previous shortlist would have no doubt made an interesting film, but I’m pleased with the prospect of Reeves directing. For me, he’s a director with the right balance of style and substance to make this work.

This is another genre film added to Reeves’ slate, which will see the director kept busy for the foreseeable future. He signed on to direct an adaptation of The Dark Endeavour for Summit Entertainment, based on Kenneth Oppel’s novel, along with The Passage for Fox 2000 based on Justin Cronin’s novel. Then there's 8 o’clock In The Morning, based on a Ray Nelson short story. I’d imagine that I Twilight Zone will be his immediate priority now, though.

As reported previously, the film will focus on one particular story, unlike the 80s' Twilight Zone: The Movie, which was an anthology film. The story chosen will have ties to the original series, though. Leonardo DiCaprio and his partners’ in Appian Way are set to produce.

More news on The Twilight Zone when we get it.
