Originally scheduled for the middle of 2013's blockbuster season, the sequel to Thor has been delayed until November 2013.

I think it’s safe to say that Thor was a success both critically and financially, so a sequel was always going to be inevitable. Marvel certainly wasted little time in announcing it,

I, along with many others I’m sure, am looking forward to seeing a further exploration of Thor as a character. We'll get a dose of that in The Avengers next year, but the prospect of a new standalone film further exploring the Shakespearian nature of his family dynamic, and his love for Jane Foster, is just as interesting.

Sadly though it seems that we’ll have slightly longer than anticipated for the release of Thor 2, as it has been pushed back to a release date of 15th November 2013 from its original slot of 26th July 2013.

The original slot would have placed it slap bang in the middle of summer blockbuster season, but Walt Disney Pictures have decided to release the big screen version of Phineas And Ferb on that date instead.

Iron Man 3 is due in May 2013, so perhaps they wanted a slightly greater gab between the two. Or it might just be down to a delay in being able to get the production rolling, and thus Marvel wanted to buy itself some more time.

Thor 2 is set to be directed by Patty Jenkins (Monster), it's now been confirmed. It's based on a script by Don Payne (Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer) and will see the return of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as Thor and Loki respectively. The script also features Odin and Jane Foster which will presumably mean the return of Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman.

More news on Thor 2 when we get it.
