Could The Wolverine be showing his claws? Hugh Jackman reckons that an R-rated cut of the film may yet be a possibility...

Given that he’s doing promotional work for Real Steel at the moment, it’s unsurprising that Hugh Jackman has been chattering about his return to his most popular big screen role, The Wolverine, as he does so.

The new film, set to be directed by James Mangold, goes before the cameras next year, and already, Jackman has been promising a less complex, more focused movie than X-Men Origins: Wolverine. That's a good start.

However, talking to MTV, he’s also teased the idea of a harder cut of the film. This wouldn’t be the version released in cinemas, rather a harder cut presumably for the home disc release.

Jackman said that “There's such great temptation to make an R-rated Wolverine. I've always felt that. I know a lot of fans would like that. I totally get it. If there was ever a superhero that was going to be R-rated, it's Wolverine. However, in the last ten years, I've also met many, many 12, 13, dare I say 10, 14, 15 year-olds who, for them, Wolverine is not just cool, you see it in their eyes. He's everything to them. So my thing is, which James Mangold and I talked about, is let's not put it off the table. There's even a talk of us doing two versions, as in finding a way for us to do both while you shoot it, which could be really cool. But you need to have a really good reason to exclude those fans."

The full interview is here. And if the idea does come to fruition, might we even get an R-rated Die Hard movie again in the future? Just a thought.
