Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Expendables

Filming has begun on The Expendables 2. It looks like Chuck Norris is definite, and we know how long Arnold Schwarzenegger is spending on the film...

Just a few bits to round-up regarding The Expendables 2. So we’ll get on with it.

Firstly, filming has finally begin on the film, under the stewardship of director Simon West (Con Air). The film is shooting in Sofia, with most of the main cast already in place. According to Global Arnold, though, the inclusion of Nicolas Cage in the line-up remains unconfirmed. Here’s hoping that gets sorted out.

Chuck Norris has arrived in Sofia, so it’s fair to suggest that he’s definitely on board the new film. He'd not, to our knowledge, been officially announced.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role in the new film, meanwhile, looks set to be a brief one again, although a bit more substantive than in the first movie. Given that he’s also commencing shooting Last Stand this month, it’s perhaps unsurprising that he can only fit four days in for Expendables 2. Those four days are scheduled for this month, too.

In the first film, Arnie had less than a day for his scene with Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis to be shot, so we’ll certainly see him on screen for more than a minute or two. But his is unlikely to be anything more than a small supporting role. We suspect the same might be true for Bruce Willis.

The Expendables 2 is Schwarzenegger’s first film role of more than a day's shooting in some time, and perhaps that’s why reports have been trickling in about Arnie undergoing some heavy training for the role. He might just need it. We wouldn’t say that to his face though, obviously.

The Expendables 2 arrives in cinemas next August.
