Two more actors, who have previously worked with Quentin Tarantino, have been lined up to feature in his spaghetti western homage, Django Unchained.
Personally, I was hugely excited when it was announced that Kevin Costner had been cast in the role of Ace Woody in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Costner picked no shortage of quality roles at his peak, but his star faded, and quality roles have been sadly lacking for him. However due to his commitments to Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, Man Of Steel, he had to bow out of Tarantino's project, leaving the role open.
It now seems as though Tarantino has found his Ace Woody, though, as The Wrap are reporting that Kurt Russell is in talks for the role. It would see him playing the ruthless man charged with running the plantation of Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio), and relishing in the torture of the slaves who are forced to take part in a series of death matches.
Russell previously worked with Tarantino on Death Proof, a movie that proved to be quite divisive among film fans. I in the minority of people who actually enjoys the film, but I’m still hoping that better things will come from their collaboration this time around.
In addition to the potential casting of Russell, The Hollywood Reporter have announced that Laura Cayouette has been cast in the role of Candie’s sister, who co-owns the plantation. Cayoutte is another member of the cast who have worked with Tarantino previously, as she played the role of Rocket in Kill Bill Vol 2.
The film is shaping up nicely ahead of its release in December 2012. We’ll bring you more news on Django Unchained as and when it becomes available.
