Mortal Kombat is returning to the big screen, with a 2013 release date planned. Details here...
It’s been off the big screen for a while, but Warner Bros has now, it’s been revealed, greenlit a brand new Mortal Kombat movie.
The new film is set to be directed by Kevin Tancharoen, who is responsible for the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series, and the current plan is to shoot early next year, ahead of a release in 2013.
You might remember, in the middle of 2010, an eight-minute Mortal Kombat: Rebirth movie appearing online. At first, the origins of the film weren’t clear, although it was eventually revealed that this was the work on Tancharoen, who shot the video as a pitch to Warner Bros for a reimagined Mortal Kombat movie.
It looks like that might just have worked.
