Spike Lee's American remake of Oldboy has seemingly set its sights on both Rooney Mara and Christian Bale...
After a few stops and starts along the way, it seems that the American remake of the jaw-dropping Oldboy might just be moving ahead. The Oldboy remake was – and here comes some boring trivia – the subject of the first news story we ever wrote on Den Of Geek, way back in 2007, just to give you a flavour of how long this has been bubbling along.
The current state of the project is that Spike Lee is to direct it, and Josh Brolin has been confirmed in the lead role. Furthermore, Christian Bale is being heavily linked with the villain role in the movie.
As for the female lead, though? Well, Twitchfilm is reporting that Rooney Mara is a strong possibility. Mara, who is starring in the US take on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for David Fincher, hasn’t been officially offered the role, but Twitchfilm seems confident that its sources are on the ball with this one.
We’ll keep you posted as and when this is confirmed. And it’s looking likely that the Oldboy remake will be heading into production in the next few months…
