Already a popular and well-liked book, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close becomes a big budget movie this Christmas, with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock starring.
It’s set after the tragic events of September 11th, in which a young boy, Oskar Schell, loses his father. In the aftermath of his death, Oskar finds a strange key that belonged to his father, and begins a search to find the lock that it fits.
The film is directed by Stephen Daldry, who previously helmed Billy Elliot and The Hours. And the first trailer and poster for the movie have just appeared. The early response is that it doesn’t seem to be capturing what made the book so strong, although we couldn’t give you any insight on that, having not read it.
The movie arrives on Christmas Day in the US, with a UK release currently earmarked for February 3rd 2012.
