Dead Island is set to make the jump from videogame to the movies, as Lionsgate picks up the film rights...
As famous for the staggering trailer that launched it as the end result, Dead Island turned out to be a decent zombie game, rather than anything particularly special. It’s still turned out to be a solid hit, mind, and with that in mind, it’s perhaps unsurprising that the movie rights have been picked up.
It’s Lionsgate who has acquired them, and Sean Daniel (who worked on Tombstone and The Mummy) is set to produce the project.
There’s no further details as yet, although we’d suggest that it’s that trailer, rather than the game itself, that’s led to Lionsgate forking out to make a film of the game. The movie is likely to reflect the plot of holidaymakers who find their idyllic island overrun with zombies.
More on the project as we hear it.
